Kiernan, Mr Patrick

Patrick J. Kiernan, was born in 1869. While teacher at Glenwood school from September 1889 - April 1894, he was very active in Hall and Ginninderra sporting organisations. At a meeting of the one Tree Hill Jockey club in 1890, when James Gillespie resigned as Secretary after 19 years, Kiernan accepted the position. He is also listed as score keeper for an important steel quoits game between locals Read and Warwick, held at the Cricketers Arms Hotel, with substantial bets laid and numerous spectators. ln the early 1890's P.J.Kiernan was captain of the Ginninderra Football team which consisted mainly of members of the Boyd, Coulton, Rochford and Rolfe families.
