Gordon, Mr Hector Murray

"The quiet years of Erskine White's incumbency at the [Gundaroo] school had come to an end in August 1883 with the arrival of a new teacher, Hector Murray Gordon, "one of the whitest of white men", an old Scot who forsook a military career for life on the Victorian goldfields and eventually declined into bush teaching. In Gordon's time the school residence began to leak and the chimney was endangered as the outcome of the shoddy work performed twenty years before, but his stepson and successor, James F. Lowe, who came to the school on Gordon's retirement at the beginning of 1891 [also] made little complaint about the school or the buildings" ".
