Sackett, Ada Annie

Ada Sackett was born on 2nd August 1900. She trained as a teacher from September 1920 to August 1921, and her first teaching position was at Gibraltar School. She was the teacher there from August 1921 until 11 January 1924, when she was appointed to a position at Mount Rankin Provisional School.

The Queanbeyan Age reported on her farewell:

"A very pleasant evening was held at Gibraltar School on Wednesday last 23rd instant when about 30 couples gathered together to make a presentation to Miss Sackett who was removed after the Xmas holidays from Gibraltar school to Mt Rankin in the Bathurst district. Little Edna Flint clasped the watch on Miss Sackett's wrist. Miss Rustin read and presented an address. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Fitzroy for the use of the school.

She taught subsequently at Bathurst, Dulwich Hill, Cleveland Street and Mugabeen, before resigning in March 1931. She resumed teaching as a temporary teacher at Queanbeyan Public School in 1959, and for a further four years at Red Hill until 1964.
