Gifford, Alexander James [1885-1960]

Gifford was the teacher at Tharwa for nearly three years until February 1911. He enlisted in December 1915. Further biographical information and his service record can be found at the ACT Memorial

He was the son of Samuel Gifford and Margaret McIntosh, who married on October 11th 1876 at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Queanbeyan.

Mr Alex Gifford, Bulga Creek, has passed the examination qualifying him for the position of pupil teacher under the Education Dept. He commences duty in Goulburn. [Queanbeyan Age 13.2.1906]

Mr A Gifford who has been teaching at the Tharwa school for the past two years and eight months has been transferred to Little Billabong near Germanton [Goulburn Evening Post 26.1.1911]

Mr Alex Gifford formerly teacher at Metz Public School has been transferred to Mortdale. [Queanbeyan Age 8.4.1921]
